Abilities
⯌ Moon Magic Harque is able to channel one half of elemental moon magic, specifically the half revolving around light/healing/protection; he cannot do the latter half, revolving around dark/harming/damaging. It is often cast with sigils like so. The light aspect of moon magic is very cold, and is able to temporarily freeze things solid as well. No, I don't know why, that's how this game's magic system goes.

⯌ Time Magic Harque was the original inventor of time magic in his canon, so much so that an entire cult killed him for it (yay!). He enchanted a Moonstone with the ability to reverse time if his younger brother was killed at all, therefore bringing that brother back to life. Any other usages of time magic hasn't been seen by him specifically, but it's safe to assume he has a great deal of control over it since, y'know, he enchanted a rock about it.

⯌ Healing Magic Part of his moon magic, Harque can heal injuries and create barriers to block damage. He is limited in that he can't restore lost body parts or cure illnesses.

Spellbook & Staff Summoning Can call his spellbook & staff to him at any time. Who knows in what hammerspace these are stored in.
Out-of-Character
⯌ Backtag Forever & always

⯌ Fourthwall No

⯌ Threadhopping Always fine

⯌ Threadjacking Ask for logs; always okay for network

⯌ Off-Limits Uninterested in plotlines revolving around noncon/sexual assault (as a primary focus), de-aging, pregnancy, or infidelity/cheating.
In-Character
⯌ Pysical Contact Go for it! Harque needs a hug.

⯌ Mental Contact Hell yeah let's do it

⯌ Flirt Sure! Harque will be very shy and flustered about it.

⯌ Romance M/M only; willing to do crosscanon always. Main canon ship is Harque/Clamor... please let them hold hands.

⯌ Fight Contact me first; Harque is a pacifist so I'm not sure why you'd want to punch him but hey, let's go.

⯌ Injury Contact me first; assume OK if there's a fight going on

⯌ Death Contact me first

⯌ Triggers Harque's family was considerably abusive (locking him in a room for 12 hours and refusing to let him see his brother until he proved he was proficient in magic he couldn't physically do, forcing him to study constantly, etc) and he has no idea this is Not how a family operates. Also his family was involved in a cult. If abusive families and/or cults are going to be upsetting, drop me a line to opt out of those specifically or to opt out of interacting with Harque all together!

Wolfie what the hell is this?

This is an opt-in and opt-out post for this stupid rat bastard mind mage. Essentially, all I need you to do is tell me if you'd like to opt in or opt out of having random mind reading moments from the token bastard.

I can read your mind at any time now, my darling. )

First Impressions

Harque is a young, tall, and overall shy man who seems to prefer the comfort of books over people. He's as socially oblivious as he is deeply paranoid; while he holds himself high with proper posture and respectful speech, he doesn't know how to act around people in general. His social obliviousness comes from a lack of being exposed to people for his entire life. He might have a small case of foot-in-mouth syndrome sometimes. As for his paranoia, it's often well-hidden, but he might slip up sometimes and say something deeply worrying.

He is a sweet, caring young man despite this, who will go out of his way to help others. Though he laments being unable to do a certain type of magic that his family was born with the ability to do, he works very hard to find other ways to make himself useful. It seems as though "making himself useful" is a constant with him; who is he if he's not healing your injuries, or trying to make food, or trying to be the best in every aspect? Who will love him if he isn't perfect?

He speaks often of his little brother, who he loves very much and is quite protective over. Harque seems happiest when he's telling people about his brother and only his brother; his face will fall if he speaks about his parents and extended family. If he went through something terrible, however, he isn't outwardly sharing that. Not immediately.

Info

Harque Ebalon was the oldest of the Ebalon Family and set on the path to become "Moon Master", a unique title to basically say he is one of the people who would guard over the world at large with the other elemental El Masters, overseeing the domain of moon magic. As he is unable to do half the magic required, his candidacy was called into question, and in his studies he managed to discover a way to manipulate the flow of time. This would, theoretically, give him a way to regain his candidacy...

...if he hadn't been assassinated, that is. The Ebalon Family had long worked with a cult known as Henir's Order, who at first were sort of just "there", though they had vested interest in destroying the world because Cult Reasons. When Harque discovered time magic, Henir's Order directly told him to give them his research Or Else. Harque refused, and so his assassination was staged as he and his little brother tried to escape their family home. Luckily, his brother Noah survived and would go on to start a vengeance crusade against the Order. This war path his brother is on is doubled-down by the fact that Harque's appearance has been stolen by a shapeshifter named Dantalion, who pretended to be him for 10 years at least, and cast the Ebalon name into a much darker light.

As a note, Harque's family was highly abusive before his death and did not care about him after; this abuse mostly included locking Harque into a room for 12 hours a day and forcing him to study day in and day out so that he would be a viable candidate for Moon Master, which typically brings a family a lot of prestige. Harque had minimal exposure to other people growing up, and was even kept away from his own younger brother most of the time. Topics of abuse can and will come up with him; trigger warnings will be used appropriately, but fully opting out of this or interacting with Harque in general should be done on his permissions page.

Abilities & Inventory

MOON MAGIC: The power of the moon has two aspects, the light and the dark. The light is responsible for the areas of healing and protection; the dark is the more violent aspect that's mostly used to harm. The light aspect also has a freezing effect to it if needed, shown by other moon magic users in-game. Harque's magic is often casted via sigil, and he can only perform the light aspect, not the dark, meaning he is proficient in healing and basically nothing else.

TIME MAGIC: Having sort of accidentally discovered how to manipulate the flow of time, Harque is somewhat of an expert in this field despite his short life. He can also enchant objects with it, seen when he enchants a Moonstone with the power to turn back time if certain parameters are met first. Any other usages of his time magic haven't been shown, but it's safe to assume if he can make time jump backwards, he can likely make it jump forwards or stop it completely.

SPELLBOOK & STAFF: His spellbook and staff are able to be summoned to his side at will.

First Impressions

Dantalion is a rather quiet, private individual, it would seem. He constantly carries poise and an air of professionalism about him regardless of the circumstances he's under. His speaking style in tandem with this speaks of a higher social status and a great degree of wealth.

Boundless curiosity is a constant with him. He asks questions, listens to answers, and tries to decipher the unknown. Should something catch his interest, he doesn't stop until he's learnt as much as he can about it, though this can be somewhat slow-going. There's much to learn about the world, after all. In addition, he's rather studious, usually seen reading or carefully observing the world around him. He will trade information for information, striking deals to get what he desires — would you like to learn about magic? Well, why don't you trade him for information about something of equal value? Money and material wealth do not interest him; everything comes back to science.

He's a rather skilled mage, able to expertly perform what he calls "moon magic", a form of magic which he explains encompasses both light and dark. He strikes others as patient in how he carefully explains this to any who don't understand, and repeating questions do not seem to bother him. He's even willing to demonstrate his prowess, being cautious not to hurt you in doing so — and should you find yourself hurt, you'll have a healing spell cast on you immediately. He's so very kind and calm, exactly like how one would think the moon ought to be.

But

...Why does he smile like that?

Info

Dantalion is not who he says he is; he'll tell you that his name is "Ebalon" and smile sweetly, politely, but all of his interactions with others are rather measured and controlled. With semi-rare exceptions, he never allows his actual identity to slip through. He's impersonating someone, you see, a young man he killed named Harque Ebalon. Should you find out that his true name is Dantalion, you either know too much and must be eliminated immediately, or you've been trusted with sacred information. Unfortunately, the former is far more likely than the latter.

He is a deceptive and manipulative man under the surface; all niceties are merely an act, since he's supposed to be "Harque". Dantalion will act as though he cares, look out for others, and generally play the part of the meek and quiet Harque. Behind this, however, he is cold, calculating, and constantly observing others to see what use they can provide to him. Those without any "use" are rather swiftly discarded or of little to no interest — however, those with some sort of perceived use to him, be it minor or major, will find themselves targetted and treated with a certain kindness. Up until they wear out their usefulness, however, at which point Dantalion is very quick to "take out the trash".

His plans for destruction, devestation, or otherwise usually take a very long time to stew, and he's quite meticulous in how they're performed. Every little detail must be perfect before and during execution. People have to be coerced and swayed to his side, trust must be built, and he needs sufficient time to worm his way into the hearts and minds of others to ensure everything goes according to plan. As a result, his plans can take ten or more years to be put into place, but this isn't of consequence to an immortal man.

As a high-ranking member of Henir's Order — a doomsday cult, in simple terms — Dantalion utilizes your typical cult coercion tactics to sway people. He is very patient with this, and hardly expects things to happen within a day. It's all based in trust, and from trust it's based in loyalty. Of those who he commands, he expects absolute loyalty; going against him is not an option unless one wishes to meet an untimely demise. If that's the case, he's more than willing to handle said demise as painfully as possible.

When the more "real" side of him bleeds through his measured interactions, Dantalion is quick to anger and even quicker to destroy, often going for something catastrophic in damage. He has a real sadistic streak about him, including track records for human experimentation and an over-the-top love for discovering what can "break" the mind and body, as well as discovering the unknown or simply seeing "what would happen if X happened?" While curiosity is a driving force, this curiosity is not pure and innocent in its intent; there's always something to be found and something to be used to further his own ends.

Should he mess up at all and allow something to slip through the cracks, Dantalion is swift to undo it with mind magic, erasing the offending memory completely from the other person's mind so that he can continue to operate as he always does: in the shadows and behind the backs of those he might feasibly convince to trust him.

Abilities & Inventory

SHAPESHIFTING: His most glaring ability is that of shapeshifting into any form he would like. His preferred form at the time is that of Harque Ebalon. His real form is unknown as of current canon, though it's believed he's either a demon or an eldritch horror or an eldritch horror-demon in reality.

IMMORTALITY:As Dantalion is over 1000 years old, his immortality seems to be based entirely in lifespan like a vampire's would be. Canon implies that he is perfectly killable through other means.

MOON MAGIC:The power of the moon has two aspects, the light and the dark. The light is responsible for the areas of healing and protection though it can be used to inflict injuries; the dark is the more violent aspect that's mostly used to harm. The light aspect also has a freezing effect to it if needed, shown by other moon magic users in-game. Dantalion typically summons apparitions of the moon when casting large spells and has a crest that will appear at his back when he uses magic. The crest is white when utilizing the light aspect and purple when using the dark. Dantalion can create sigils on the ground (the sigil will show up white if light-aspected, dark purple if dark-aspected) that will explode with magic on contact as well. This link has a solid list of spells he utilizes in his boss encounter. This video I took of his boss fight pretty accurately showcases how he looks while fighting, though it may be somewhat incomprehensible to people unfamiliar with this game.

TELEPORTATION: He can teleport using moon magic like so, leaving an apparition of the moon behind when he does. This can be used under both crest colours and the colour of the moon will change accordingly (white for light; black for dark).

MIND MAGIC: Dantalion has access to mind spells including modification, falsification, and deletion of memories. He puts his target to sleep before doing this.

SLEEP MAGIC: Exactly what it says on the tin. Zzz...

SPELLBOOK & STAFF: His spellbook and staff are able to be summoned to his side at will. Dantalion will frequently flip through his spellbook mid-fight to cast spells and uses the staff as an arcane focus.

CHARACTER
Name: "Master Ebalon" (typically goes by just Ebalon)
True Name: Dantalion
Canon: Elsword (505 years after the El Explosion, roughly chapter 27)
Age: Over 1,000 years; he appears roughly 18-21ish physically however.
History: Wiki link and wiki link for the guy he's pretending to be just for clarification purposes.

Powers/Abilities:
  • Immortality: Appears to only be a lifespan thing since he's lived for over 1,000 years. He's implied to be perfectly killable in canon otherwise.
  • Shapeshifting: Ebalon can take on the form of whatever he likes. His real appearance is unknown, and his current preferred appearance is that of Harque Ebalon, who he's impersonating.
  • Moon Magic: The power of the moon has two aspects, the light and the dark. The light is responsible for the areas of healing and protection though it can be used to inflict injuries; the dark is the more violent aspect that's mostly used to harm. The light aspect also has a freezing effect to it if needed, shown by other moon magic users in-game. Ebalon typically summons apparitions of the moon when casting large spells and has a crest that will appear at his back when he uses magic. This is a decent video of how he fights in-game (very slowly because he stands there to cast spells the entire time) and this has a list of specific spells he has in the above fight. Unlike Harque, he does NOT have time magic — I think the wiki link above makes this slightly unclear.
  • Mind Magic: Ebalon has access to mind spells including modification, falsification, and deletion of memories. He puts his target to sleep before doing this, which brings me to...
  • Sleep Magic: What it says on the tin. There's nothing special here.

Inventory: His spellbook and staff as shown in this image. The latter of the set is summoned into existence (shown in the video above in the beginning cutscene). Other than that, he simply has the clothes on his back.

Job History:
  • Sage of Seven Tower (former): Canon is unclear what a "Sage" is, but it is implied that a Sage is in the upper echelons of students there and that the title has prestige associated with it. Specifically he was part of the Seven Tower of Mirage, which is simply a fancy name for one of the seven towers. As he was a student, his responsibilities included "homework", "studying magic", and likely "conducting magical experiments" given that Seven Tower was a college for mages.
  • El Master (former): In short, a Master is someone who has complete mastery over their chosen element, his being the Moon. The Master is then put into a protectorate role over the El, which at the time was a massive crystal responsible for maintaining life over the world at large. There is one Master each for the elements of Water, Fire, Wind, Earth, Sun, and Moon, so he did not act alone in this protector role. That being said, Ebalon betrayed the Masters and the world at large by orchestrating the destruction of the El and causing an apocalypse, so that ended rather well.
  • High-Ranking Member of Henir's Order (current): Also in short, Henir's Order is an apocalypse cult that seeks to cast the world into Henir, the primordial chaos. Responsibilities include "blowing up the crystal that sustains the life of the entire world" and also a ton of research into how to further access Henir and use its power to corrupt. Canon heavily implies that Ebalon is one of the leaders or at least, high-ranking enough to have people following his command. He and other Order members will attempt to recruit others to their cause as cults are wont to do.

Suppressions: Ebalon often tries to repress his true nature by acting in ways that the man he's impersonating would act — that being kind, helpful, and generally good-natured. It's rare, but sometimes the mask does slip and there are moments where he's unnecessarily violent, angry, or otherwise not living up to the standards his "predecessor" set. He's very quick to reign this in, but if one pays enough attention, it's noticeable. He's quite obviously trying to suppress the fact that he's also not who he says he is.

Greatest Fear
: His plans to throw the entire world into the primordial chaos being interrupted or otherwise thrown off track so badly that they cannot continue as they are.

Greatest Desire: To have as many people as possible under the yoke of the Order carrying out their mission of wrecking the entire world.

Greatest Regret: It's very unclear if he regrets anything, but I imagine his greatest regret might have been showing his hand too early. The El exploded and it was ostensibly his fault, but now he can't exactly continue his manipulations from the point of being a Master, and the world is relatively okay 500 years later. This is absolutely not how it was supposed to be.
